On November 18th, 2007, Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Randy Mantle passed away after battling leukemia.

For over 20 years, the assistant fire chief for the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District had put his heart and soul in to protecting the lives and property of the people who live in his district. Randy also worked as an emergency medical technician at St. Johns Hospitals. The past seven years Randy was the assistant chief of operations, working Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing vehicle and station maintenance along with fire inspections on local businesses. He helped the district keep up with new equipment and helped plan some of the new stations that have been built during his tenure. The Mantle's have three children, Cody, Caleb and Nicki.

 


Greene County Deputy Sheriff Gary McCormack was killed in the line-of-duty at 4:15 am on Saturday, October, 6, 2007 in an automobile accident at the intersection of Farm Road 145 and Highway WW, when the patrol car he was driving collided with a vehicle driven by an Ebenezer Firefighter. Both were responding to a report of another auto collision.

Deputy McCormack had served with the Greene County Sheriff's Department for only 4 months, and had previously served as a police officer with the Republic Police Department for 7 years. He is survived by his wife, son, and daughter.

The Ebenezer Firefighter who was involved in the accident sustained critical injuries and was flown out by helicopter. He was medically cleared to return to duty in January of 2008.

On August 17, 2005 Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Jay Sampietro was killed in the line of duty on Interstate-44 while investigating a fatal accident which happened the previous day.

Corporal John Anthony "Jay" Sampietro, Jr., 36 of Rogersville, was born on June 26th, 1969 in Memphis, Tennessee. Jay graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in Sikeston, MO, in 1987. He later received his associate degree in Law Enforcement from Mineral Area College. He was a member of the 64th Recruit Class of the Missouri Highway Patrol. He was appointed to the Patrol in January 1992, and was originally assigned to Troop E .On November 13, 1999, he was united in marriage with his wife Jennifer and to this union two sons were born. Along with this service to the MSHP, He also enjoyed working at the Sikeston Rodeo and the Missouri State Fair and spending time coaching his sons' T-Ball tams. He served as a Corporal for Troop D and had been serving in the Webster County office since March 2003.In addition to his road duties, Corporal Sampietro was a pilot assigned to Troop D Headquarters.

Jay was actively evolved with the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District, where he was Captain of station 6. Because he had a love for new technology and state of the art equipment, LRFPD is numbering their new fire & rescue engine in honor of Jay by using his Trooper number 584. A plaque indicating this honor will be placed on the engine and dedicated in his honor. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons, ages 4, and 10 months. Corporal Sampietro was the third member of the Patrol to die in the line of duty in 2005.
